Grief Therapy

There is no ‘right’ way to grieve

Grief is a universal emotional reaction to loss. The experience of grief is highly individual. We all have our own histories, experiences, cultures, and beliefs that shape us into who we are today and that shape our grief experiences.

Grief can be experienced in response to any loss, not only in response to the death of a loved one. Loss is inherent in illness, caregiving, trauma, life transitions, and other adverse or difficult life experiences. Loss to overdose, suicide and violence may also be losses of innocence, of safety and security. One individual can experience multiple losses in the context of a single event and cumulatively throughout a lifetime.

There is neither a universal “right” or “wrong” way to grieve, nor a standard grief timeline. There isn’t an instruction manual. Grief isn’t a problem to be fixed, rather it is an experience that once processed and understood. Grief can be integrated into our lives and can give us strength to go on. Our losses become part of who we each are and stay with us as we continue on our journeys.

A safe space

Whether you need a safe space to talk about your loss and what you are feeling and thinking, or are in need of practical guidance for moving through the day and for what lies ahead, therapy can help.

With dedication, compassion, and collaboration, I bear witness to you and your grief experience. I help you cope and regain a sense of control. I guide you in integrating your loss(es) into your personal experience.

Together we will strategize an individualized plan identifying your values, inner strengths and resources to serve as guideposts on your healing journey.
